Our Lady of the Abandoned Church

Location: New Panaderos Street, Sta. Ana Manila

          The first church of nipa was dedicated to Sta. Ana, the Blessed Virgin's mother. In 1599, the government allowed the construction of a church stone
which has begun not much later than this year. In 1720, construction of a larger stone church which has begun not much later than this year. In 1720, construction of a larger stone church was begun under the direction of Vicente Ingles at a site different from that of the earlier church. During the Philippine revolution of 1896, the church and convent were looted of its statuary, furniture and church records. In the 1960's the church was renovated with the addition of side ailes to accommodate the growing number of parishioners. Under the title, Nuestra Señora de los Desamporados ( Our Lady of the Abandoned or Inang Mapag-Ampon), our Lady shows her solicitous concern to those who call on her, especially the abandoned and the deprived, the oppressed. and the suffering, the least privileged, and the least fulfilled, etc.
