Inaugurated in 1989, the Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, is one of the newest churches in Metro Manila. It is also highly historical, being the first to
commemorate the intercession of Our Lady in the famous People Power movement of 1986, when a dictatorial government fell - through peaceful resistance, peaceful street demonstration, peaceful prayer.
Known as the Edsa Shrine, it stands at the crossroads of two main thoroughfares: Edsa which is the longer and older thoroughfare that links at least three cities and four towns within Metro Manila and Ortigas which is the newer and shorter Avenue. The aim of the Edsa Shrine is to show that with the grace of God, peace and concord and reconciliation are realizable for the ordinary man. In spiritual terms, man makes peace with God and with his fellowmen provided he counts on the Grace of God to support his resolve. For this reason, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is easily available in the church.
