1972 was the year of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) arrived at Better Living Subdivision. As a fitting expression of their love and gratitude to the powerful Madonna of Don Bosco, The Salesians built a big and beautiful temple
to Mary of Help Christians in 1973. Soon after that, a fast growing community has developed around the church which was under the jurisdiction of the parish of St. Andrew in Parañaque town. His Eminence, Cardinal Sin elevated the church to the level of a Parish Church on June 27, 1975. The new Parish of Mary Help of Christians was to give pastoral service to 30 villages, annexes, sitios and compounds, Better Living Subdivision being the largest. On July 24, 1975, the Cardinal installed its first Parish Priest, FR. PIERANGELO QUARANTA, SDB.
The National Shrine of the Mary Help of Christians has for its special feature and attraction a statue of Mary Help of Christians which antedates the Japanese war and rule of the Philippines in the early 40's. This statue came along with Msgr. William Piani, a Salesian and then Papal Nuncio to the Philippines. It was first enthroned at the Manila Cathedral since our Lady, under the title of Help of Christians, is the secondary Patroness of the Philippines. Devotees to the Mary Help of Christians hope that they would obtain extraordinary grace and favor through her intercession.
